Permanent health insurance is one expense we had to afford no comments
A colleague of mine at work has recently had the news that her partner is about to be made redundant and like so many people her age had been spending virtually all their combined income without saving anything for a rainy day. I suppose they are relatively fortunate that she still has a job and that he’s quite prepared to do anything to bring in some money and believes he can pick up some temporary shift work in a factory but it won’t make up for the shortfall. They were faced with a scenario of having to save a few hundred pounds a month if they were to remain with their heads above water and stay solvent so they have had to sit down and analyse their entire spending to see what could be cut back on, what could be cut out all together and what they needed to prioritise like rent.
There were a few quick wins; Sky was cancelled as was gym membership and direct debits to lottery syndicates etc. Charities have been shelved temporarily as have anything that wasn’t vital. She then used the comparison websites to source better deals on the home insurance, car insurance and permanent health insurance. In most cases she was able to save a few pounds to chip away at her shortfall.
Cruise Insurance Tips no comments
If you’re planning on spending your holiday whilst cruising, I suggest purchasing cruise insurance before you go. Cruise insurance is relatively similar to regular travel insurance; however, changes are made to the policy to reflect situations that may occur during a cruise. Not all insurance policies are the same, so it is important to thoroughly discuss what is covered under the policy before purchasing cruise insurance. Here are a few of my best tips for selecting the right cruise insurance.
Look into Multi-Trip or Annual Travel Insurance: If you travel often, it may be cheaper to find a policy that will cover more than one trip. You may be able to pay for the insurance annually and it is usually more cost-effective to go this route if you travel more than once per year. It is important to make sure that there are no limitations in the policy, as some policies do not cover cruise holidays.
Discover What Limitations There Are: Not all insurers will cover adventurous or water sports activities. If you enjoy white water rafting or other extreme sporting activities, make sure those items are covered in the policy. Some insurers will not cover injuries that occur from activities like this, whilst others will charge an extra premium if you want coverage for extreme sporting activities.
Luggage and Personal Belongings: Although some insurance policies will cover your personal belongings if they are lost or damaged, they may not cover items that are stolen. Your home contents policy may already provide coverage for these items, so it is important to check with your insurance company before purchasing cruise insurance. If you do not have coverage through your home contents policy, ask if you can add an ‘all risks’ cover to your policy.
Medical Expenses: Make sure that your policy will provide coverage if you need to be treated in a hospital whilst on your cruise holiday. The policy should also provide coverage if you incur extra travel fees due to illness or injury. I strongly recommend receiving a copy of the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) if you will be travelling through Europe. You can find this form at the post office and it will help you receive health care services throughout Europe. All of the expenses and fees may not be fully covered, so it is still important to have your own insurance coverage.
Cancellation Policy: Make sure you find out what the cancellation policy is before purchasing insurance. Find out what situations are covered in the event you need to cancel your cruise. You should also make sure that the other individuals who are travelling with you are also covered. If you have coverage, then you should be able to reclaim lost expenses related to your holiday cancellation.
Filing a Claim: Make sure to save receipts and keep notes while on the ship, so you can easily send the insurance company paperwork if you need to file a claim. Don’t wait unit you return home to file a claim, as most insurance companies want to be notified immediately, or they may not provide coverage.
A few other points to consider are personal liability, legal issues, pre-existing conditions and personal accident coverage. I recommend exploring your options to find the cruise insurance that reflects your needs well in advance. If you make sure that both you and your travelling companions are covered, you will be able to have a more enjoyable and relaxing holiday.
Don’t Miss The Boat – Get Cruise Insurance no comments
Cruise holidays have become an incredibly popular choice for couples and families. If you are spending time planning for that next big adventure, make sure you also spend some time finding out more about cruise insurance. Take the time to thoroughly explore your options when it comes to cruise insurance, so you can relax on-board the ship, knowing you are protected. Here are just a few reasons why we think cruise insurance is so important.
Not All Insurance Policies Cover Cruises
Although you may think that you are covered under your current travel insurance policy, you may not be. Some policies specifically exclude providing coverage to travellers that are on a cruise. Your cruise line may also not provide coverage for certain things that could happen, such as an injury that occurs whilst exploring the city at a port of call or if an injury occurs when you are participating in shore excursions. Cruise insurance is similar to regular travel insurance, but there are special provisions added in that are applicable to those who are on a cruise.
Your Medical Expenses Will be Covered
If an unfortunate event occurs, and you become injured or ill during the cruise, your medical expenses will be covered. This is especially important if you will be partaking in shore excursions or participating in water or winter sports activities. We do recommend speaking with your broker first, so you can make sure all of the activities you plan to do are covered in the policy. In most cases, the insurance company will cover your medical expenses, extra accommodations or any other travel fees that you incur due to illness or injury.
You Will Have Coverage if you Need to Cancel or There are Delays
Sometimes, something unexpected may happen, and you may have to cancel your holiday. If you have insurance, you should be able to reclaim lost expenses that are related to your cruise holiday. We suggest asking your broker if your policy allows for cancellation and what reasons for cancellation are acceptable before purchasing an insurance policy. If the cruise is delayed due to weather or other reasons, many policies will refund you the money for days that you lost.
We know that going on a cruise is supposed to be a time of happiness and relaxation; a time for you and your travelling companions to immerse yourselves in the luxurious surroundings and escape on a dream trip. Unfortunately, sometimes unexpected events occur that could cause your trip to be less than enjoyable. Cruise insurance will help you feel protected, so you can sit back and relax, without worrying how you will manage if something goes wrong. We do suggest speaking with your broker about purchasing insurance for each traveller who will be accompanying you on the ship, so you know that each member of your family is protected whilst travelling. You should also make sure your luggage is included in the policy, so both you and your belongings are covered.
Why You Need Camping Insurance no comments
Don’t you just love the thrill and the independence of packing up your gear and heading off camping somewhere? It is an exhilarating way to spend a free weekend and one of the finest types of break from work in my opinion.
I normally get home from work on a Friday, pack my stuff, grab a bite to eat and head off as quickly as I can. I’ve even been known to leave in such a rush that I have to go back home again in order to pick up my map, my flask or something else I have forgotten. However, one thing I never forget is to sort out some camping insurance whenever I need it whether I’m on a camping holiday in Lake Garda or the Lake District.
Travel with Peace of Mind
We all worry about things to one degree or another, although most of the people reading this probably aren’t born worriers like me. I just hate having something preying on my mind, and travelling anywhere without insurance is one of my big fears. Apart from that, I can also recommend double and triple checking your oven before you leave home. I once spent an entire weekend in the Lake District worried that I had forgotten to turn it off after making lasagne. Luckily I had switched it off and it turned out to be delicious.
Don’t Lose Out
If you need to cancel your trip or your equipment gets lost or damaged you won’t need to foot a big bill if you are properly insured. Camping gear is relatively expensive but if you look after yours and have a decent insurance policy then you won’t need to splash out on new items for a long time. Unless you are like me that is. I can’t walk past one of these outdoor stores without popping in and admiring their selection of rucksacks, waterproof trousers and cutlery sets. I don’t actually need any of this stuff but just looking at it gets me in the mood for travelling somewhere and having some fun. I sometimes look at the faces of other people in the shop and I think I can safely say that I am not the only person who gets some sort of bizarre pleasure from spending my lunch hours doing this when I don’t actually have anything to buy.
Avoid Problems
Since I have never really had problems when I have gone camping it is hard to discuss this from personal experience. However, I am thinking about being stranded far from home after being robbed or needing expensive medical attention in a foreign country. These aren’t going to be pleasant situations whether you are insured or not but at least the insurance cover will make sure that you can sort things out a little easier. If all you really want is to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing break then sort out your insurance before you go away and you know that anything which could happen to you has a solution. As long as you didn’t leave a lasagne in the oven without switching it off, that is.
Insurance Guide to Your Cruise Holiday 1 comment
Arranging cruise holiday insurance is pretty simple to do now that we live in the internet age. You just need to find a site, type in some details and then follow the instructions. The ease with which it can now be arranged means that it is becoming increasingly common with cruise travellers.
Here is a quick guide to making sure that you get the most out of your policy after you set it up and while you are on your cruise holiday.
Keep the Details Handy
You don’t want to suffer an accident or a robbery while you are away and not be able to contact your insurance company right away. As with most important travel documents, it is a good idea to make a couple of copies of them before you go and store them separately. You will also want to hold onto any emails you receive from the company. As well as this, you definitely need to store any documents which will be used afterwards to support a claim if you need to make one.
Know What You Are Covered For
Ideally you will know what your policy covers you for before you pay for it, but you may decide to read up fully on the subject afterwards. Otherwise there may be some situations in which you are covered without even knowing it. For instance, if you miss your connecting flight for reasons outside your control then you might be able to get things sorted out by contacting your insurance company. If during your Alaska Cruise Holiday you decide to go on an excursion make sure this is covered in your policy. If you haven’t read up on the subject then you night not even think about this as you desperately try to come up with a solution on your own.
Claim When You Need To
If anything goes wrong on the trip then that is what your insurance policy is for, so you shouldn’t feel embarrassed or reticent about making a claim when you need to. What you do need to be sure of is that you follow the correct claims process. You won’t want to miss out on the chance to use the policy simply because you make a mistake or don’t follow the process to the letter. This is clearly most important for big claims but even if it a relatively minor one you should make sure that the policy pays out as it is meant to.
Enjoy the Trip
At the end of the day, cruise insurance cover is really just there to let you travel without any worries. There is a good chance that you won’t need to use it and that you end up completely forgetting all about it, and that it exactly what you will want to happen. After all, how often do you think about your home or car insurance? Having the policy documents tucked away in your luggage will give you a great deal of peace of mind and if anything does go wrong then they could save you a lot of hassle and expense as well. Which is really what insurance is about anyway, isn’t it?
Save Money When You Compare Travel Insurance no comments
Travel insurance is a necessity and a smart investment for any traveler, enabling peace of mind so you can better enjoy your trip. Nothing ruins travel like unforeseen events such as cancellations, accidents, and other incidents; travel insurance is a one time purchase that can cover all of these and save you time, money, and stress.
Travel insurance may seem confusing at first, and many travelers are apt to buy the first policy that they encounter at a travel agency or online. Travel insurance should be handled similar to other types of insurance; just as you would compare car insurance policies, you should compare travel insurance policies.
Travel insurance policies from company to company. An excellent place to start is to survey any programs or organizations that you belong to that provide travel insurance, as you may have an applicable discount that will save you a fair amount of cash. These can sometimes include companies you might not think of as offering a discount, and earn yourself surprising savings. Certain memberships can also decrease your cost when purchasing travel insurance from other providers when the companies have partnerships.
You can save money by hunting for deals among different travel insurance providers. Certain packages are available on a limited basis, or surrounding a certain theme. For example, providers might have a special deal on travel insurance for a certain time period like the holidays, or trips to specific areas of the globe.
Finding the right travel insurance takes a little bit of time so you can find the best deal for you, but comparing insurance is the absolute key step to saving yourself money. Rather than jumping on the first policy that simply ’sounds good,’ the right amount of shopping around will give you a policy that fits you and your travel plans exactly. This coverage will give you peace of mind; and in the event that anything does happen, help you move past the issues and back to the goals of your travel.
Travel Essentials – Insurance no comments
These days, an increasing number of individuals are recognising the need for travel insurance. As such, it is quite common that banks will provide their customers with automatic travel insurance. For those who aren’t automatically insured through their bank or other institution, travel insurance should still be at the forefront of your mind and not be overlooked when booking a foreign holiday.
A common misconception regarding travel insurance is that because you possess an EHIC card, you don’t require a separate insurance policy. Whilst the EHIC card will provide you with emergency treatment in the EEC member states, it won’t cover any other emergencies such as accommodation, transport home and lost luggage.
Having the correct form of travel insurance is essential to all trips, not only in relation to accidents and injuries, but also cancellations. Should you have to cancel before you even jet off, by ensuring you buy the right insurance at the same time as you book your holiday will get you your money back. The same applies if your luggage gets lost, comprehensive travel insurance will help you replace the items lost in transit.
The biggest claim made by travellers is loss or theft of possessions. Everybody claims to be extra vigilant when away but it’s easy when having fun to let your guard down. Once again, by having the right kind of travel insurance you should still be covered by your policy should the worst happen.
If your hotel room is broken into and you lose cash or other possessions, the only way you will recover the value is through your holiday insurance. Make use of the safety deposit boxes that are available in most hotels, if your room should be broken into at least they can’t get to your valuables.
