South Carolina Vacation Rental Checklist   no comments

Posted at 9:28 am in Family travel insurance

Renting a vacation home is a great way to enjoy the splendor of South Carolina. The combination of home conveniences and a premier location is what attracts thousands of tourists to this lodging alternative. While few would argue the benefits, it is important to note that there are some risks. By using the checklist below, you can ensure your family will have a great vacation in South Carolina.

1. Destination South Carolina offers a number of fun areas to find a vacation home. The key is to make sure you choose a destination that fits your expectations. The barrier islands, like the Isle of Palms, have unmatched privacy but are limited in their extracurricular attractions. Myrtle Beach on the other hand has a wide array of amusement activities, but is very densely populated. You should consider your vacation expectations before choosing a destination.

2. Budget A complete assessment of your vacation budget should be done before shopping for a vacation rental. Keep in mind that the rental rate does not include ancillary costs such as tax, travel fares, food and beverage, or amusement prices. Depending on your situation, the vacation rental rate may only represent half of the total cost of your vacation.

3. Time of Year The season that you visit South Carolina will have a direct impact on the cost of your vacation. The most expensive time period falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day. You are more likely to find bargain prices if you can avoid this peak season.

4. Rental References In the era of online information, most people are utilizing the internet for reserving their South Carolina Vacation Rentals. While this is a time efficient way to search properties, you need to conduct in-depth research on the property you are considering. Ask the owner for three or more references from previous rental tenants. Call the references and ask them questions about the cleanliness and upkeep of the property. You may also want to ask about the accessibility of area attractions. Calling rental references is a great way to make sure your dream vacation rental lives up to its billing.

5. Rental Terms One of the easiest ways to exceed your vacation budget is to overlook the terms and conditions of your rental agreement. Be sure to incorporate common costs such as lodging tax, linen charges, cleaning costs, and club memberships. Most of these items are clearly outlined in your rental agreement. You should also be comfortable with the terms of payment. Most vacation rentals require 50% of the rental rate provided up front, along with a security deposit. The balance is typically due about 14 days prior to the rental date. Overlooking these deadlines could result in losing your reservation and deposit.

6. Amenities- Although there is a distinct advantage to using a vacation rental when it comes to home-like provisions, you should be aware of everything that is advertised to be included with your rental. Televisions, stereos, cooking utensils, towels, and bed linens are all important things to check for. Not having access to these supplies could lead to costly trips to the local Wal-Mart.

7. Weather Take a minute to study the average temperature and climate conditions for the time of year you are renting. While it is safe to assume that South Carolina is warm in the summer, seasons such as spring and fall can provide more uncertainty in temperature. Also take note of the precipitation forecast. Rain and wind can lead to cooler temperatures and the need for appropriate apparel.

8. Vacation Insurance Most vacation rental owners have very strict refund policies. Unfortunately, they rarely refund your money. You can assume that full payment is expected as long as the property is standing and in livable condition. This comes into play for instances of hurricanes and natural disasters. Basically, unless there is unforeseeable damage to the house, you are obligated to complete your contract. Thus, it could pay dividends to investigate the cost of vacation insurance. This type of policy protects your losses in the event of a family emergency, weather conditions, or any other variable that prevents you from reaching your destination.

The Ten Commandments Of A Super Safari.   no comments

Posted at 11:17 pm in Family travel insurance

So you are going on safari? Well congratulations but have you what it takes or do you even know how to make a memorable safari no matter where in Africa you are traveling?

Count yourself lucky if you didnt have a clue, and if you are one of those first time travelers to Africa with no clue what to expect or even how to go about packing for that trip of a life time, because Im about to give you a few tips.

Trust me this could easily be the experience of a life time, Africa has a lot to offer, so forget those media images you see of poor and famine stricken Africa.

Oh and you might also want to put away those images of Tarzan in Africa with wild animals always attacking him. The creator of Tarzan never visited Africa and most of the episodes were filmed in southern California.

What Im about to share with you should be extremely useful so don’t discard it. You will be glad you read it.

I call them the Ten Commandments because I believe that these are ten things that anybody going on safari should take into account.

Commandment 1.Thou shall not forget thy camera.

Sounds obvious for those who don’t leave their cameras behind,

Or those of us who have expensive cameras with all those fancy buttons that we haven’t really figured out how to use yet, this would be one of those reasons why we spent a fortune on them.

But how about those of us who may not be good at taking pictures or have never taken any except of course those moments when a family member or a stranger asks you to take them or your idea of a camera is your phone with that 2 mega pixel.

If I was to recommended a camera for a safari it would have to be a 35mm camera with automatic exposure and interchangeable Lenses. For the best results in photographing wildlife and birds, you should have a zoom lens. Remember to bring extra batteries for every camera and flash unit.

Commandment 2 Learn thy neighbors language.

In most parts of Africa you will find that English or French are the official language but sometimes there will be a national language.

This is simply a language that most locals will speak. In Kenya and Tanzania for example, Swahili is considered the national language although most locals can speak English you will sometimes encounter those that dont. It helps if you can say a few basic words in the local language.

You will also soon discover that when you can say a few words in the local language you will often get special results.

A simple guide to pronunciation:
a as in father,
e as in bed,
i as in tin,
o as in or,
u as in truth

Helpful Words and Phrases in Swahili should you be headed to East Africa.

General
Hello! Jambo!
How are you? Habari?
Good, fine, very well Nzuri
Bad Mbaya
Thank you (very much) Asante (sana)
Please Tafadhali
Good-bye Kwaheri
Welcome!/Nearby Karibu
Danger Hatari
Friend Rafiki
Sorry Samahani, Pole
Excuse me, please Samahani

Commandment 3 Thou shall not drink tap water.

Avoid drinking water from the tap. You can buy bottled water in most lodges and camps. Soda, beer and other beverages can also be purchased at lodges and camps throughout the safari. This is because in most places in Africa tap water isnt that safe to drink.

4. Mind thy clothing.

Bring very casual summer clothes that are easily laundered and dry quickly.

Visitors on safari have traditionally worn olive, tan or other neutral colours. These clothes reflect the heat, dont show the inevitable safari dust, and do not stand out when you are trying to look inconspicuous on a game drive. With cool temperatures in the early morning and evening, layering is the best approach. Laundry service is available in most places so you can replenish your supply of clean clothing as you need it. Much of the time on safari is spent in a van, so lightweight and comfortable walking shoes (tennis shoes or desert boots) are appropriate; hiking boots are not necessary. The style in Africa is casual, even in the evening.

You will be in the sun a great deal, and at these altitudes it is easy to sunburn very quickly. A complimentary safari hat is given to each of our guests, so you will not need to pack one. Do pack a swimsuit and cover-up, as some of the properties have lovely swimming pools.

5. Check thy safari checklist.

So what is a safari check list?

These are items you will often find useful and you might want to bring along on your safari.

Alarm Clock travel size
Converter/Adapter- electricity is 220V. As outlets vary you should travel with a set of international adapters
Batteries extras, for all of your appliances and cameras
Calculator pocket size for currency conversions
Camera equipment and film
Chapstick and moisturizing cream
Correspondence address list
Hat, visor or scarf
Insect repellent with DEET (20%)
Keys extra set of luggage keys
Laundry soap
Medication over-the-counter or prescription medicine you take on a regular basis
Passport, travelers cheques, credit cards, drivers license, a copy of your passport
Pen and paper for notes
Prescription glasses if you wear them (and a copy of your prescription)
Reading materials
Sunglasses (two pairs in case one is lost or misplaced)
Sunscreen
Tissues and moist towels
Toiletries and cosmetics

Commandment 6 Thy credit cards thou shall find useful

American Express, Diners Club, Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in most African countries Including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar while you are major towns.

Commandment 7 Thy driver shall be thy guide and teacher

Whenever you are on safari in a tour vehicle you will always have a trained driver who you should consider a companion and teacher, giving briefings, answering questions,
and providing insights that will help make your journey even more memorable. Each one is a seasoned professional, speaking several languages including local dialects, with an in depth knowledge of the cultural and natural environments you will see along your way.

Commandment 8 Thou shall take care of your property and valuables

Normal care and sensible precautions should be taken as you would in the United States, the UK, Europe or other parts of the world. Do not leave cash, jewellery or travelers cheques unattended in hotel rooms. Most Lodges or hotels have safe deposit facilities for your valuables.

Commandment 9 Remember thy passports, visa and to keep them valid

All travelers must have current passports valid for 60 days after the expected departure date from Africa.

Commandment 10 Remember thy insurance.

Travelers should have medical insurance, as they will be responsible for all medical expenses they may incur. Trip cancellation insurance is strongly advised. The cost of your safari is an investment which you will want to protect.

Finally I could call this commandment 11 but it just wouldnt sound right, so Im going to refer to it as the bonus commandment.

Thou Shall Learn To Bargain

Most travellers to Africa are not really used to bargaining for their goods. But in Africa unless you are in a supermarket or a mall, it is expected that you bargain especially when buying curios or souvenirs. In Africa it is expected that you bargain. I have said it time and again that and will continue to do so until the last one is converted. Every time you pay that “special price” you make it more difficult for others after you who will find it harder to bring down inflated prices.

The World Is Your Oyster When You Have A Passport   no comments

The World Is Your Oyster When You Have A Passport Holder

It happens more times than you could count. You stash your passport in your pocket. You pull it out, only to have bits and pieces of paper and cardboard spilling out of your pocket alongside your passport. Or, you put your passport inside your bag, only to realize later on what an idiot you’ve been to keep something so important buried underneath mountains of souvenirs and unwashed clothing.

There is no doubt about it. When you travel, your passport is your lifeline. To the countries you enter, you are no one without it. This is why you need a passport holder. A passport holder lets you keep vital documents together in a place you are not going to lose. Passport holders are becoming more popular the world over as people travel almost as frequently as they get married.

A passport holder can potentially save lives through preventing cardiac arrest. Remember the bad old days when you’d have bits of paper and cardboard spilling out of every pocket? Or those days when your important travel documents would be buried somewhere underneath mountains of souvenirs and unwashed holiday clothing? Well, passport holders are here to solve all that, and to save your family the embarrassment of having their dirty holiday laundry aired out at the check-in counter in front of the people who will be sharing the same flight for the next 12 hours or so.

What Is a Passport Holder?
A passport holder is not a little man who stands about four and a half feet tall. It is not some airport personnel you pay money to for holding your passport as he screams, “des planes, des planes!” once he sees the big birds winging their way into the airport. A passport holder is a kind of wallet or folder type contraption used to hold together a variety of travel documents, such as passports, tickets, boarding passes, insurance papers, and the like. Passport holders keep documents together in one easy-to-see, easy-to-find, recognizable place. Think of it as a place to collect all those “other socks” of the travel documentation world!

Types of Passport Holders
The most common type of passport holder is a simple clear plastic slip that acts as a protective cover. It keeps your passport looking nice and pretty. However, it has no purpose aside from being decorative. If you’re a serious traveller, you would need something more customized for keeping your nomadic life together!

You can go for a simple sleeve folder clutch-type passport holder where you simply slip your documents into the open pockets in each side, fold them up, and then let gravity take care of the rest. This kind of passport holder is great, until it gets tipped the wrong way or dropped on the ground. You can then watch your precious documents scatter all over the ground in the path of stampeding travellers, as the passport holder is knocked out of your hands. This kind of passport holder comes in airline regulation vinyl, which you get for free when you buy your ticket. It can also be made of expensive patent leather.

Passport Holders for Picky Passengers
To get the best value for your money and protect your passport better, get a passport holder that can hold, not just balance, your passport and your other documents. Some people use a money belt for this purpose. Some folks prefer what Americans call a “fanny pack” and the rest of the English-speaking world refer to as a “bum bag.”

Essentially, a passport holder should be constructed from a durable, discreetly colored synthetic material, similar to those used in the construction of modern travel luggage. Additionally, your passport holder should be large enough to contain your passport, driver’s license, and other essential travel documents. At the same time, it should be small enough so you don’t have to lug it around using a wheelbarrow.

Whether it’s Venice, Naples, or Milan you’re going to, you would need a passport. Let your passport travel in style when you put it inside a passport holder.

Tips For Traveling To The Caribbean   no comments

Posted at 3:43 pm in Family travel insurance

The Caribbean has long been a favorite destination for American travelers. Treasured for its scenery and family-friendly atmosphere, the Caribbean is one of the safest travel destinations for millions of American tourists each year.

Yet, like anywhere else in the world, some travelers occasionally experience travel headaches. More often than not, these travel troubles are the result of poor planning by tourists. Hence, the key to a successful Caribbean vacation is preparation, from passports and choosing the right resort to learning important details about your destination and knowing how to pack.

To make sure that your Caribbean vacation is a success, here are some travel tips to consider while planning your getaway:

Apply for passports as soon as possible. As all Caribbean destinations with exception of St. Thomas and the U.S. Virgin Islands require passports for air travel, every member of your family will need to apply. Being the first year of the new passport regulations, delays have increased (with some estimates placing completed application at 10 weeks). Since you dont want to miss your vacation because of passports that havent arrived, complete this step before arranging the details of your vacation.

Do some research before you travel. Try to learn about the culture of your destination and the locations of point of interest. Check reviews for hotels, restaurants and activities. Once you learn a bit about your Caribbean destination, you will be able to make informed decisions regarding resorts and activities.

Since the Caribbean has plenty of great family activities, try to get your kids involved in the planning process. Your children will be happy to know they had a role in your family vacation and you wont have to worry about disappointments.

Try to book a resort near your points of interest that offers helpful services. Throughout the Caribbean, reliable resorts will often offer shuttle transportation, activity packages and might even have exclusive opportunities for guests. Also, try to take advantage of your resorts local connections. It is possible to plan everything from car rentals to scuba diving tours directly through your resort.

If you plan to visit the Caribbean during the high season (generally December to mid-April), make your hotel reservations about 2-3 months in advance. During the off-season (June to November), reservations at popular resorts are a bit easier to come by and also more affordable.

Depending on where you plan to travel in the Caribbean, you may not need to exchange currency as many islands accept U.S. currency in addition to local currencies. However, in many cases, it is advantageous to carry the official currency of your destination especially when traveling outside of areas frequented by tourists. If you are unsure whether or not you need to exchange currency, check with the concierge of your resort. Your concierge can also direct you to a reliable point of exchange.

Throughout the Caribbean, food and drinking water are generally safe for your whole family. Yet, if you spend time exploring outside the major tourist areas like the unique desert coast of Western Aruba make sure you pack some bottled water.

Wear sunscreen. Far and away, the most common health concern for tourists in the Caribbean is overexposure to sunlight. However, this hazard is also the easiest to avoid. Simply pack some good sunscreen and cover-up clothing for use on the beach or while playing outside.

If for any reason you have any difficulties while on vacation in the Caribbean, contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Nearly all of the islands in the region have an office offering helpful travel information and personnel able to resolve many common travel headaches.

The U.S. State Department also offers detailed Consular Information Sheets for all the Caribbean nations. These information packets can help you understand entry and exit requirements, currency exchange, the location of consulates and embassies throughout the region and plenty of other local issues. Use the information of the U.S. State Department in conjunction with your travel guides to prepare for your vacation and avoid the unnecessary stress associated with international travel.

Look into travel insurance programs before finalizing the details of your vacation. Travel insurance can protect you (and your money) in case you need to cancel your vacation, experience delays while traveling or have any medical issues. Review your existing homeowners and medical insurance plans to see if any of these conditions are covered before you travel.

Following these simple tips as you plan your vacation to the Caribbean will not only help you avoid common travel headaches, but also grant you and your family a perfect vacation.

Tips To Enjoy A Memorable Holiday Abroad!   no comments

When you plan an international trip with your family it will be easier to get sick when you are in a new environment. Your body should get adjusted to the new food, water and air. The stress and excitement of travel could make you more likely to get sick. Here are a few healthy tips for you to make your trip more enjoyable.

The first thing you need is to find out what kinds of vaccinations needed in the country you plan to visit and other requirements.

There are three most common health problems one will face during such travel. They are:

Jet lag
Altitude sickness
Diarrhoea

To overcome jet lag, if you are travelling from west to east you must stay out of the sun until the day after your arrival. If you travel from east to west, you go for a brisk walk sooner you arrive at the place of your visit.

Dry air, decrease in oxygen and low barometric pressure due to altitude are the reasons for the altitude sickness. By gradually increasing the altitude this problem can be solved or a drug known as acetazolamide can give a relief from this sickness.

Traveller’s diarrhoea – turista occurs when foreign type bacteria enters the digestive tract when contaminated food or water is taken. By taking proper care in the food you eat and the water you drink this can be avoided.

Water supplies in many developing countries are not treated, so it is better you drink only bottled water.

You must carry inhalers, allergy medicines, insulin as well as contact lens cleaners and vitamins. It is always better to carry your medical history with you while on travel with the following information:

Name, address and phone number of the contact person in case of emergency
Blood group
Immunization reports
Doctor’s name, address and telephone number
Name and address of your health insurance carrier including your policy number
A list of current medications you are taking, if any

With the above precautions, you will surely have a memorable holiday abroad and share with us on your return.

Tips To Improve Your Group Travel   no comments

Most people who travel alone tend to get bored and require some sort of activity to keep themselves busy. But in case of traveling in groups you have lot of fun, sharing of thought, expression of feelings and also some learning. Such a group travel is organized by big companies. They send their staffs in groups and since the staffs already know each other they get along easily during such travel. Here it becomes a team work since it is a joint decision made by the staffs on the immigration and customs documents, travel insurance, stay tenure etc. Bachelors are allotted shared rooms.

Family people have individual rooms . The whole place would be filled with kids, teenagers and some old people. Tourist must wait until every one gets in so that the tour bus is able to leave for the next stop. Check-in is usually very difficult in hotels but once you get your room, the vacation officially begins.

Being considerate and patient is the key to a joyous group travel. Since we come across many people with varying characters and perceptions, we should adjust ourselves to face any kind of situation. Don’t give up your sense of humor since it is one of the vital stuff for a pleasurable group travel. This kind of travel binds relationships and is ideal to spend quality time with your friends, relations and business colleagues to share opinions.

When you have an official meeting, the selection of venue is very important to make the meeting memorable. The best fit places would be restaurants, indoor or outdoor pools, fitness center and probably a spa. If your conference has a break or two, many resorts tell you the possible local sights to see during the break. Going out in a group for any purpose should be a memorable one. Let the travel or trip be official or personal, make the place lively and as far as possible be humorous and sustain yourself in case of any misunderstandings.

Next time when you book a resort for your group conference, be clear with your requirements to make the meeting enjoyable and memorable. Your meeting should be comfortable for all your co staffs. You should avoid resorts having bars in case you have female staffs coming along. If you have any new staff in your group; make them feel comfortable with certain gestures like smile and hand shake and introducing yourself and others to him. Such decent habit helps them to come out to you easily without hesitation.

Top Tips For Getting The Best Travel Insurance For Your Needs

Lets face it; we have all encountered some sort of problem or two while traveling either for business or with the family on vacation. That is where travel insurance can come in handy. Many people are not aware that they have the option to buy travel insurance to help cover possible medical or hospital expenses while traveling away from home.

If you get sick while away, you can expect to possibly end up losing money on your prepaid accommodations if you end up spending a night or two in the hospital. Many people plan their vacation now with package deals where they pay one price and their entire itinerary is planned for them. If this is how you have planned your trip and then you end up sick, chances are that you will lose out on the activities that were lined up for you with no chance of a refund. That makes your entire trip very costly as well as uneventful.

Here are some of the top tips for getting the best travel insurance for your needs:

You should try and avoid getting your travel insurance through your travel agent as you can expect to pay up to 66% more than if you bought it Online. All you need to do is a bit of searching in order to find cover that suits your needs the best. Travel agents that offer travel insurance might not have coverage to back themselves in the event that their business goes under or bankrupt. That will still leave you in the same boat you were in, in the first place. Be sure to stick with companies that have a strong history in this area.

If you decide to go with an Online company then be sure to check out their credentials. You want to make sure that they are legit and offer more than one plan. You want to look at different levels of coverage to best pick out what meets your specific needs. There are some items that should always be included in every policy such as: Unlimited Overseas Emergency Medical Assistance, Personal Liability, Unlimited Overseas Dental, Hospital and Medical Expenses and Unlimited Lost Deposits and Cancellation Fees.

Another important tip is to always be wise and check the details of each policy offered. Since there are many different levels of coverage, you want to check which ones will cover pre-existing conditions if you or a family member has any. Traveling with such conditions can be scary when it comes to medical coverage so this would be some piece of mind to let you enjoy your vacation.

Traveling should be a fun experience and travel insurance helps to make sure that you do not incur unexpected financial burdens while away from home. Just be careful and check out each company you are considering that offers travel insurance. Make a list of what items you want to have coverage for and use that list to help you choose the plan that is right for you.

Research shows that today when picking a way to spend a vacation, people search for something that is drastically different from their everyday life. They seek to completely change the way of living at least for a short period of time. Psychologists find that the more the difference, the better would be the rest and relaxation. Thats why people go to African safari, hike in a Guatemalan jungle, rent boats in Normandy, or stay on a small island in the Caribbeans.

A cruise ship is extremely different from the way most people live. You can stick to a scheduled routine or you can sunbathe all day long. It does not matter if you buy full-price or a discount cruise. Even a discount cruise offers all the same features of cruise vacation. Traveling By Sea – An Exhilarating Experience   no comments

Posted at 6:48 am in Family travel insurance

Modern day cruises are extremely popular. Today, travelers prefer setting sail on cruise ships, rather than opting for road trips. Cruises offer exotic holiday adventures, with the same facilities available back home. But this may not be the only reason why cruises have become so popular. There are many reasons that add to the popularity of cruises.

The most obvious factor is the price. Long cruises are not very affordable. These cruises are accompanied with additional expenses of port fees, insurance and airfare. However, cruises are offered at more manageable prices through travel agents and online travel websites. These websites include the meals, offshore accommodation and entertainment expenses, within the ticket fares. In other words, the cruise trips available online and through travel agents are more reasonable and affordable.

People opting for road trips are always susceptible to travel hazards and other unpleasant experiences. Moreover, these people end up spending more money on the vehicle maintenance and tollbooths. People who choose a cruise trip are offered complete personal freedom and the privilege to be independent from responsibilities. Cruises, like five-star hotels, offer room service and sightseeing. This is the core reason for cruises attracting passengers for celebrating family reunions, birthdays, honeymoons and anniversaries.

Five-star Cruises are popular for their off-deck tours and adventures. These visits or tours are carried out with minimum fuss and fanfare. Even during tours, passengers can sleep, eat, exercise and even go camping. The tour moves at a lazy pace, which benefits passengers looking to relax and improve their health. Also, the passengers are offered duty-free shopping, especially in the Caribbean or scuba diving or special feasts hosted at exotic locales.

Sometimes, traveling also involves unpleasant experiences of meeting nasty people. Many of these experiences arise out of arguments or altercations with nasty flight attendants, cab drivers and grouchy hotel clerks. These experiences increase the anxiety of travel and exclude the sense of excitement and adventure that should accompany any vacation. Travelling by sea includes only one experience relaxation. The fellow travelers and staff on cruise ships are known to be very polite and pleasant. Most often fellow cruisers who come from a variety of backgrounds seem keen on socializing and increasing their number of friends and acquaintances.

Airlines pride themselves in offering the best intercontinental cuisine. However, airline food will never be able to compete with that served aboard the cruise ships. The food is often the highlight of a cruise experience. Whether at a buffet, in a dining room or in your cabin, cruise ships offer the best food. The food is very delicious and unlimited. Passengers can easily gain a few pounds if they are not careful.

In conclusion, cruise travel is popular for the variety it offers as a relaxing vacation option. Presently, over 200 cruise ships set sail on the oceans and rivers, with a considerable increase in the number every year. Among the big names are the Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival. Smaller cruise liners for smaller oceanic voyages are also available.

7 Reasons You Need Travel Insurance   no comments

Posted at 6:37 pm in Family travel insurance

Several types of travel insurance is available, including flight insurance, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, health insurance, baggage insurance and no-refund insurance. But, deciding whether this additional premium is necessary may be a tough choice. However, if something should go wrong, your trip and your composure could be ruined. Here are some reasons why you need travel insurance.

1) With the loss or theft of money, property and or travel documents, getting everything organized is a feat. Travel insurance offers a single point of contact to help you get back on track, with little cost to you.

2) If you or your travel partners should fall ill or have an accident where you are forced to forego the trip, or the travel provider goes out of business, you are could be left in a helpless situation. Besides missing your vacation, you could end up losing the costs of your trip or incur hefty cancellation fees.

3) Your destination has been hit by natural disaster, political unrest or medical outbreak, forcing you to cancel. A cancellation, even if it’s not under your control, may cost you.

4) Traveling internationally will likely require checking your baggage. If your bags are lost or delayed, you could lose your packed valuables, or fork out cash for any essentials needed in the interim. Most major airlines offer a low payout for lost baggage and may not be adequate for expensive electronics or sports equipment.

5) If you are injured or need medical attention while traveling, your stateside insurance may not cover you. In the unfortunate event that you are hospitalized, you might need to fly someone out to assist you. Travel medical insurance is handy to have, especially if you are on foreign soil and need help to evacuate and repatriate you back to the U.S.

6) Heading for extreme sports or high-risk activities like rock climbing, snowboarding or adventure rafting? The requirement for emergency medical attention is too great, so extra coverage is necessary to keep you covered in case disaster strikes.

7) If you damage property, engage in illegal activity or inadvertently hurt someone, you may need legal counsel or money for damages.
